The Environment Division (ED) is responsible for safeguarding the natural environment, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing ecological well-being per the acts, regulations, policies, and management strategies of the country in close coordination with the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR). Additionally, the division ensures the provision of relevant services to the public to support sustainable living and to offer continued socio-economic development opportunities while ensuring a healthy and livable environment for present and future generations.

Mandate for Environment Division (ED)

Issuance and renewal of Environmental Clearance (EC) as per the project categorization.

Monitoring the projects/activities for compliance with the terms and conditions of EC.

Impose fines and penalties for non-compliance to the terms and conditions of the EC as per the regulations.

Maintaining cleanliness in the Thromde.

Monitoring and inspection of urban municipal waste.

Operation and management of the landfill.
-
Verify, approve, and monitor the site for disposal of construction and demolition waste, expiry goods, and bulky waste.

Monitor the waste collection as per the schedule made by Thromde.

Approval and monitoring of burying carcasses in consultation with veterinary officials and hospitals.

Clearing of illegal dumping sites/areas in coordination with waste firms.

Monitoring and inspection of illegal dumping in the Thromde.

Monitoring and inspecting vendors selling goods in undesignated areas in the Thromde.

Impound and monitor the street vendors (animals) in the Thromde.

Create awareness, advocacy, and sensitization on waste management, and other environmental issues in the Thromde and impose fines and penalties on the defaulter as per the Waste Prevention and Management Regulation, 2012, (Amendment, 2016).

Implement Zero Waste Hour on the theme “My Waste, My Responsibility” and organize/initiate other environmental-related programs in Thromde.

Dissemination of information to the public on any environment-related programs and in Thromde.

Attend complaints/grievances from the public.

Provide services for emptying septic tanks within Thromde’s jurisdiction.

Approval of new sewerage connection upon site verification and feasibility.

Approval of sewerage drawing upon verification.

Monitor and inspect sewer lines in the Thromde.

Facilitate tree cutting in public spaces to minimize the risk to commuters upon joint verification of forestry officials and NRDCL.

Development, maintenance, management, and beautification of parks, and gardens in the Thromde.

Organize plantations in the road divider, parks, and open spaces.
-
Observe international days related to the environment and waste.

Carry out any other relevant tasks assigned by the management.
